Dietmar Gunz, founder and long-time CEO of FTI Touristik in Munich, made his open come-back now. As new managing director of low cost tour operator BIG X-tra he will push multi-channel sales including TV shopping, Internet and travel agents. Gunz follows Detlef Hoffmann who will leave the company end of October. 10/02; Dietmar Gunz, founder of FTI Touristik in Munich, has re-entered the German tourism industry with stakes in tour operators, travel agencies, hotels and restaurants. After the sale of FTI to Britain’s Airtours (now MyTravel), Gunz was forced to stay passive for a year. His main travel platform now is a 70% stake in Creative Reise and Informations Systeme (Cris) which operates under the Reise.de brand. He also owns 100% of operators Monorama Touristik GmbH & Co. KG in Berlin and Big X-tra in Munich. 5/02; Dietmar Gunz, founder of FTI, will take over Monorama Touristik in Berlin in March who is specialized on tours for the elderly. 1/02

Peter Hamburger: The associated members of the German Travel Agencies and Tour Operators Association (DRV) have their own offial group now. Peter Hamburger (TAS Touristik Assekuranz Service GmbH, Frankfurt) was voted speaker of the so-called Column 5 at the 52nd Annual DRV Conference in Dubrovnik. He is also deputy board member of the Group of National Travel Agents' and Tour Operators' Associations within the EU (ECTAA) and chairman of the ECTAA legal committee. 12/02

David Harper is new World of TUI Director Accommodation Supply for Northern Europe. 12/03; TUI’s destination activities within the Tourism I executive department headed by Ralf Corsten are to be reorganised. David Harper, Annemie Brackx and Wolfgang Bremer will form the new management board for destination activities (the Destination Board). The chairman, David Harper, is responsible for the further development of systems supporting central hotel bed contracting as well as the coordination of destination services between the tour operators. 12/02
